Hello! I am Carroll. It was my idea to start breeding and raising Cockapoos. We have been raising AKC registered Cocker Spaniels for over ten years now. We started "breeding down" our cockers to try to get them smaller, because the smaller size seemed to be what people wanted. We have been very successful with it. I had read on the internet that people were interested in Cockapoos, so I got the idea that we could get a male poodle and breed him to some of our small Cocker Spaniel girls. We adopted Joey, the little white poodle in the picture.
It would be almost a year before Joey would old enough to breed, so we took one of our girls over to the breeder from whom we adopted Joey and asked if we could breed her to Joey's dad, Eddie. (Eddie is the grey poodle in the picture.) The breeder agreed. We had our first litter of Cockapoos in April of 2008. Some were black and some were buff. All were precious.
We were very pleased with the appearance and size of the puppies. They are what is called "first generation Cockapoos", which means they are the product of a registered Cocker Spaniel and a registered Toy Poodle. They have the happy-go-luckey, merry spirit of the cocker and their coat has the non-alergenic qualities of the poodle. I have been asked what they look like. Well... they look like a COCKAPOO.
We have kept one of the black ones. We named him "Mutt", because he is really just a little "half-breed mutt". He is what I call our "poster boy" so we can show people what a Cockapoo looks like. Some of the cocker breeders are not happy with these so called "designer dogs". AKC, of course , doesn't recognize the breed. Others are "crazy" for these little mutts..
